The Worship Music of HPC

Heritage Church has what you might call a blended worship style. That is, you will see a mix of traditions and fresh expressions of faith; hear centuries-old hymns played with full modern band accompaniment interwoven with contemporary praise and worship songs, all guided by the principles laid down for our worship in God's Word. We do not give prominence to tradition for tradition's sake. Neither do we clamor to modern fads in order to be “relevant”. Rather, the Bible instructs us to honor God's work in the past by recalling the testimonies and singing the songs of saints gone by (e.g. Deuteronomy 31:22, 31:30-32:44) as well as by singing new songs to God, praising Him for the work He is doing even now to save sinners (e.g. Psalm 33:3, 40:3, 96:1, 144:9, 149:1, Isaiah 42:10, Revelation 5:9, 14:3).

The Worship Format of HPC

There is more to worshiping God than singing songs of praise. He is also worshiped and honored as we draw near to Him in prayer, repentance, examination of the Bible, and through the celebration of the sacraments (Baptism and the Lord's Supper). Some of the elements of our worship service are liturgical in nature, such as the Call to Worship. But through each element of the service we seek to experience and be reacquainted with the Gospel message by allowing the Bible to shape our hearts and minds.

For those who are unfamiliar with some of the elements of our worship service, we often take time during the service to explain what we are doing and why we are doing it. We do this so that those who come from other backgrounds do not need to feel uncomfortable or excluded. We also do this so that those who are more used to the style and format of our service won't become so familiar with it that we lose sight of why we do what we do.
